Creating Cyber-savvy Kids

The Northeast Washington Education Council, ESD 101 and the US Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Washington are sponsoring two Internet Safety Summits to help inform parents, students, community members, educators and law enforcement. This is part of the Internet Safety Training and Education Project sponsored, in part, by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Program, US Department of Justice.

This session is intended for parents, students and other community members interested in Internet safety issues. Presentations will cover topics such as cyberbullying, social networking risks, online predator risks, and identity theft. Time will be spent discussing online filtering and monitoring software that can be used to help limit online risks at home. This interactive presentation will also include local experiences related to the internet safety topics covered. Participants will leave with a packet of free, high quality resources.

Districts are encouraged to send a team of teachers, counselors and administrators to this Washington Curriculum Day session. We’ll cover topics such as understanding 21st century learners and the Internet, cyberbullying, social networking risks, online predator risks, and identity theft. Time will also be spent reviewing high quality online safety education resources that are free and widely available for both classroom teachers and law enforcement professionals.
Presenters will include school administrators, local and federal law enforcement with experience in computer forensics and online crimes, and ESD technology and prevention/intervention staff.
